Announcement

30/01/2017: NOTICE ON ISSUANCE OF U.S. VISA

THE ATTENTION OF THE EMBASSY HAS BEEN DRAWN TO INFORMATION CIRCULATING ON SOCIAL MEDIA TO THE EFFECT THAT THE AMERICAN GOVERNMENT WILL BAN THE ISSUANCE OF TWO YEAR VALIDITY VISAS TO NIGERIAN PASSPORT HOLDERS. THIS ACTION IS SAID TO EMANATE FROM THE RECENT AMERICAN GOVERNMENT EXECUTIVE ORDER ON IMMIGRATION CONSEQUENT UPON NIGERIA NOT RECIPROCATING THE ISSUANCE OF TWO YEAR VALIDITY VISA TO HOLDERS OF AMERICAN PASSPORT VISITING NIGERIA.

THE EMBASSY WISHES TO STATE THAT THE INFORMATION BEING CIRCULATED IS FALSE AS THE NIGERIAN DIPLOMATIC MISSION AND CONSULATES-GENERAL IN THE UNITED STATES ISSUE TWO YEAR MULTIPLE ENTRY VISAS TO HOLDERS OF UNITED STATES PASSPORTS TRAVELLING TO NIGERIA. THERE IS, THEREFORE, NO TRUTH IN THE ASSERTION THAT NIGERIA IS NOT IN COMPLIANCE WITH RECIPROCITY PRINCIPLES IN THE ISSUANCE OF VISAS TO U.S. PASSPORT HOLDERS.

FURTHERMORE, IT IS IMPORTANT TO STRESS THAT THERE ARE NO PLANS TO DEPORT NIGERIANS WHO ARE LEGALLY LIVING IN THE UNITED STATES. THE EMBASSY WISHES TO ENCOURAGE ALL NIGERIANS LEGALLY RESIDENT IN THE UNITED STATES NOT TO BE UNDULY TROUBLED OVER PATENTLY FALSE INFORMATION, AND TO GO ABOUT THEIR BUSINESS WITHOUT FEAR OF HARASSMENT OR DEPORTATION.
