US Ex-IM Bank Backs Medical Equipment Sale to Nigeria

In recognition of Nigeria's improving economic climate the Export-Import Bank of the United States (Ex-im Bank) has approved an $11 million medium term guarantee to support the $10 million sale of medical equipment, supplies and services to Yobe and Nasarawa States of Northern Nigeria for HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis prevention and treatment.

The Ex-im Bank guarantee covers financing, project related architecture and engineering services in Nigeria.

The two States will use the equipment to develop mobile health clinics and HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis prevention, diagnostic and treatment programmes in their areas.

US suppliers involved in the export sale are Adam & Associates International, Inc., GE Medical Systems, and Abbott Laboratories - Diagnostics all of Massachusetts.

Adam & Associates President Susan W. Adam expressed the company's happiness in providing highly needed equipment to fight HIV/AIDs and tuberculosis diseases in Nigeria thereby contributing to the healthcare needs of the people.

Ex-im Bank is an independent federal government agency financing US export sale to emerging world markets by providing loans, guarantees and insurance. In fiscal year 2002, the Bank is providing financial support for about $13 billion US exports worldwide.
