Emir of Birni Gwari Visits U.S.A. on Study Tour

The Emir of Birni Gwari, Kaduna State, His Royal Highness Alhaji Zubair Jibril today visited the Embassy of Nigeria, Washington United States of America.

The visit to the Embassy and other parts of the United States was in part fulfillment of the post-graduate degree programme in international affairs and diplomacy which His Royal Highness is pursuing at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

Addressing members of staff at the Embassy, Alhaji Jibril enjoined all Nigerians to work together to make the country great stressing that his decision to go back to school inspite of his eminent position was to demonstrate the need for policy change in government perception of the traditional institution. According to him there is a new emergence of highly educated elite presiding over Nigeria's traditional institution a development which he stressed require adequate tapping of the valuable human resources available in that institution.

His Royal Highness also visited the United Nations where he was briefed by the various sectional heads on the functions and activities of the United Nations. He is expected to meet with the Secretary-General of the United Nations Mr. Kofi Annan before returning to Nigeria.

Earlier His Royal Highness had been received by the Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of Nigeria, Washington, D.C. Ambassador Augustine Agada who intimated Alhaji Jibril about the structure, functions and activities of the Embassy. Heads of the various sections also briefed His Royal Highness about their activities.

His Royal Highness had an interactive session with members of staff of the Embassy during which contemporary global issues were discussed.
