National Identity Card Registration Begins December 9

The registration of all eligible Nigerians for the National Identity Card will commence December 9 and end December 22, 2002.

President Olusegun Obasanjo approved this during a meeting with officials of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, led by Chief Sunday Afolabi, Minister, and SAGEM, technical partners of the Department of National Civic Registration, at State House, Wednesday.

He reiterated his determination to break the jinx that has trailed the scheme and directed officials to ensure that all obstacles to the success of the exercise were surmounted.

Earlier, Mr. Jean Pierre Delaue, Area Manager of SAGEM, told the President that sixty thousand mobile registration stations and seventy million forms had been delivered, while 250,000 people had been trained to conduct the exercise.
