Nigeria Hosts African-American (Sullivan) Summit
From July 12 - 19 Abuja capital of Nigeria (the largest black nation in the world) hosts members of the black race from all over the world especially Africans and African-Americans as she plays host to the 6th African-African-American Summit now renamed the Sullivan Summit in recognition of the commendable role of its founder Dr. Leon H. Sullivan.
First held in 1991, the biennial summit is designed to build a bridge between America and Africa especially between the people of the African continent and their brothers and sisters in America - the African-Americans.
Over the years the Summit has come to represent the largest forum for exchange of ideas in promoting African-African-American co-operation, exploring African problems and facilitating the return to mother Africa of our African-American brothers and sisters.
This year's Summit with the theme - "Africa - a continent of possibilities" is expected to be a momentous and historic gathering of Africans, African-Americans and friends of Africa and is expected to be addressed by President George Bush of the United States who will be visiting Abuja, Nigeria during the Summit.
Issues expected to be discussed at the Summit include education, HIV/AIDS pandemic, business, trade and investment, energy, fundamental human rights including women and children rights, agriculture, environment and health all issues of great importance to the development of Africa.
Participants at the Summit will relish Nigeria's traditional hospitality and rich culture in its vibrant and beautiful capital city of Abuja.
