Ambassador Aminu Enjoins Nigerians in America to Promote Developments at Home

Nigeria's Ambassador to the United States, Professor Jibril Aminu has called on Nigerians resident in the United States to contribute their own quota to the development of their country.

These they can do by sponsoring development projects in their various localities as well as making their professional expertise available.

Ambassador Aminu made the call at a party rounding off the 6th Annual National Convention of Abagana Welfare Union in the Americas which took place at Best Western Hotel Ballroom, College Park, Maryland, United States on Saturday July 6, 2002. He commended the efforts of the organizers in raising funds to support educational projects back at home.

He reiterated his usual message that all Nigerian professionals resident in the United States should join and support the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NIDO) project by availing the country of their expertise and support government's effort to develop the country.

Two indigenes of Abagana were honoured at the impressive ceremony which attracted many Abagana indigenes in the United States.

The two honourees are Dr. Nwachukwu Anakwenze a medical practitioner and founder of Global Care Medical Group based in Los Angeles and Mrs. Uzoma I. Owunna another medical practitioner based in New Jersey. Dr. Anakwenze was honoured for his contribution to the Abagana community especially in the area of the provision of medical services while Dr. Owunna was honoured for academic excellence while at the famous Harvard University.

Earlier, Professor Aminu was a special guest at another party hosted by Nnewi Community Organisation of Washington Metropolitan Area as part of their 7th Annual Convention.

The party which had in attendance the traditional ruler of the area Igwe Nnewi, Igwe Kenneth Orizu II also attracted many sons and daughters of Nnewi in particular and Igboland in general from all over the United States of America.

Ambassador Aminu who holds the traditional title of Oyimba Nnewi attended the party with his wife, Her Excellency Mrs. Fadimatu Aminu and other senior officials of the Nigerian Embassy in Washington.
