President Obasanjo Concludes Two Day Visit to Washington, D.C.

President Olusegun Obasanjo today, Friday June 21, left Washington, United States of America at the end of a two day visit.

The President who was accompanied on the visit by the First Lady, Chief (Mrs.) Stella Obasanjo, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alhaji Sule Lamido met with the United States Secretary of State Mr. Collin Powell and the Treasury Secretary Mr. O'Neil, Chairman Chevron/Texaco Mr. Dave O'Reilly, a delegation of Exxon/Mobil and members of Board, Nigerians In Diaspora Organisation (NIDO).

Earlier on arrival, the President and his entourage had breakfast meeting with some members of Congress.

The highlight of the visit was the Conferment of the Sullivan Special Services Award on President Olusegun Obasanjo at the Third Biennial Leon H. Sullivan Summit Dinner held at Marriott Wardman Park Hotel, Washington, D.C.

The dinner was attended by United States President George W. Bush, some members of his Cabinet as well as distinguished personalities in the African-American community.

In the citation read on him by Ambassador Andrew Young, glowing tributes were paid to the exemplary leadership qualities of President Obasanjo as well as his untiring effort to improve the socio-economic well-being of the people of Nigeria in particular and the African continent in general.
